Your commercial experience and web development expertise will compliment our director's goals of delivery leading edge and long term web applications. Additionally you will play a vital role in the planning, development and delivery of our own web applications and platforms where opportunities arise to create industry leading systems which we can promote to businesses on a national and global scale.

Essential Technical and Personal Skills

1. Extensive and proven experience of PHP Development, Object Orientated Programming and PHP based content management systems
2. Strong commercial experience of delivering richer and more engaging user experiences with the use of Ajax and similar technologies to deliver enhanced functionality
3. Strong understanding of cross-browser and cross-platform technical issues which need to be addressed for each development project
4. Extensive experience working with CMS and e-commerce systems
5. Experience with PHP 5 and MySQL
6. Experience with Linux and Apache
7. Knowledge of front and back end systems
8. Understanding and experience of JavaScript, HTML and the DOM (AJAX)
9. Strong working knowledge of coding semantic, accessible code
10. A thorough understanding of unobtrusive Javascript
11. Experience of working with the Google Maps and Facebook Application API's
12. Understanding of object orientated design
13. Subversion and version controlling systems
14. Strong communication skills coupled with a strong desire to develop yourself and continually advance your skills and knowledge
15. Strong willingness to think-outside-the-box and look at delivering solutions using emerging trends and technologies which will provide greatest competitive advantage for our clients.
16. Able to multi-task

Desirable Technical Skills

1. Experience with OOP for PHP 5
2. Experience in RAD Methodology
3. Experience with PHP Frameworks: AJAX related
4. Experience with JavaScript Frameworks: AJAX related
5. Experience with Ruby on Rails, Perl, .NET
6. DBA skills
7. Experience with scaling web application development
8. Understanding of caching & templating techniques

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain leading edge web applications and web services using PHP
2. Collaborate with user experience specialists and project stakeholders
3. Contribute to system architecture decisions and performance analysis/tuning
4. Adhere to testing best practices
5. Develop expertise in relevant business domains
6. Work as part of project teams to deliver to demanding user requirements and timescales
7. Define and be accountable for best practice in the IT team, including quality of code
8. Own the codebase and build and implementation processes
9. Be LAMP champion within the team, mentoring developers as required
10. Investigate, evaluate and recommend new technologies as appropriate
11. Provide accurate and realistic effort estimates and manage resulting expectations
12. Challenge established thinking and make innovative suggestions
13. Be the trusted point of contact for all technical queries for all of the company's web applications
14. Manage all aspects of our Linux/Windows Business Server

User Experience Awareness

1. A clear understanding of the importance of on-line user experience across all web applications
2. Forward thinking and strong, commercially focused views on how emerging web developments can help enhance the user experience for client projects
